AT&T’s ZERO Charger Saves Energy and Money
By Andy Torrez | GreenTech TV
You’ve done your best to save energy by turning off the lights and shutting down your electronics. While the Earth applauds you for your effort, you might not be saving as much as you think.
Even when your appliances and electronics are in the “Off” position, they are still sucking up electricity.
The same is true for laptop and cell phone chargers. While your laptop or mobile device may not be charging at the moment, the charger is still using a small amount of electricity.
AT&T and Superior Communications have introduced a charger does not waste any energy when it’s not in use.
According to AT&T, the AT&T ZERO Charger senses when a mobile device is not plugged into it and cuts the power supply from the wall socket. All the while saving its owner money and energy.
AT&T says the charger is interchangeable and designed to work with different types of cell phones. And since it is uses a USB slot, it can also charge other handheld devices.
While the amount of electricity a phone charger draws from a wall socket while idle is minimal, about 0.17 watts according to AT&T, when multiplied by the number of mobile users, the amount is staggering.
AT&T estimates that mobile users waste enough energy to power 24,000 homes for a year.
